A rare Model 1000 garden bench, commonly known as the “Bear Bench,” designed by Walter Papst for Wilkhahn in 1964. A striking example of organic post-war German design, the bench is characterized by its sculptural, flowing form and distinctive silhouette.

Manufactured in fiberglass-reinforced plastic (GRP), the design combines a bold architectural presence with the functional qualities of outdoor furniture. This example retains its original surface and has never been repainted. Age-related wear and a charming patina are present throughout, reflecting its history and adding to the authentic character of the piece. The two holes at the base are original to the design and intended to allow the bench to be securely fixed to the ground when required. Original manufacturer’s label to the reverse.
